Assistance for Chinatown residents to apply this Sunday 7/26/2020
NYS COVID Rent Relief Program Applications
With the coronavirus pandemic, it is expected that the number of New Yorkers who cannot pay rent will continue to increase. New York State has launched the COVID Rental Relief Program with a deadline of July 30. In order to assist Chinatown residents who have limited language and computer access, Chinatown Community Land Trust has joined with the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) to provide application support to tenants on Sunday (7/26).
Eligibility is as follows: if you have managed to pay all or part of your rent from April through July 2020, you may still qualify for state assistance. To qualify for assistance, you must have:
(1) earned below 80 percent of the area median income prior to the pandemic—for New York City, this is $63,700, plus an additional $9,100 for each household member ($81,900 for a family of three);
(2) been paying 30% of your monthly household income towards rent prior to March 1, 2020 through present; and
(3) suffered a loss of income between April 2020 and July 2020 due to the pandemic.
If you are eligible, you must bring a copy of a government-issued ID, proof of your income prior to March 1, 2020 and proof of your present income (some examples are paystubs, employer letters, federal/state tax returns), and proof of the monthly rent amount (such as a copy of the lease or a letter from the landlord).
The tenant assistance event is July 26th from 10am to 6pm, in Chinatown at Florentine School, 219 Park Row, NY, NY 10038, near Chatham Square.
Interested parties please register online: https://www.nychinatownclt.org/rrp or call (917-830-6488) or email (info@nychinatownclt.org) and provide name, phone number, zip code and other information to make an appointment.
