The Chinatown CLT is an initiative under the Chinatown Partnership Lower Development Corporation (CPLDC). We are part of the broader city-wide NYC Community Land Initiative (NYCCLI) and funded by the NYC Council. Today, Chinatown CLT is an extension of a longer history of efforts to establish a CLT in Chinatown, which was proposed as far back as 2013 in a report to the Chinatown Working Group as a tool to preserve affordability and authenticity for the neighborhood.

We continue to listen and learn from other community organizations and build the CLT coalition within Chinatown and across NYC. As our project continues to develop, please join our email list to receive updates and share your thoughts with us!

Objectives 

The Chinatown Community Land Trust (abbreviation: Chinatown CLT) strives to:

  1.  Maintain a continuous dialogue with community stakeholders, residents, city officials, private organizations, and non-profit organizations that support CLT's goals.

  2. Participate in the city-wide “NYC Community Land Trust Initiative” to gain valuable governance, legal, and technical assistance.

  3. Obtain funds from the New York City Council and relevant government departments to support the establishment of Chinatown CLT.

  4. Research the legal, financial and regulatory issues related to CLT models, and broadcast the relevant knowledge to stakeholders.

  5.  Talk to Chinatown’s independent small property landlords to discuss the feasibility of converting buildings (or portions of buildings) into shared-equity housing, if conditions are appropriate, so as not to sell to speculators.

  6. Secure funding to preserve existing affordable housing and provide tenants with a new option to purchase the units they occupy at affordable prices and become shared-equity owners of affordable apartments.

  7. Work with Chinatown’s family associations, other long-term property owners, and community stakeholders to design and implement feasible plans to reduce the increasingly burdensome property tax increases, stabilize units of existing affordable housing, and ensure the safety of tenement housing occupants.

  8. Develop feasible solutions to ensure that Chinatown’s small businesses can continue to thrive in the future.

華埠Community Land Trust(簡稱:華埠CLT)將致力:

  6. 爭取經費以保存現有的平價屋,並為現有居民提供一種全新的選項,使其能夠以可負擔的價格購入自住單位,平價置業。

  7. 與華埠僑團、長期業主及社區持份者對話,討論和實施可行的方案,以減低日益沉重的地稅壓力,同時穩定現有的平價屋單位,並確保物業安全。

  8. 研擬可行方案,以確保華埠的小企業在未來可以持續蓬勃發展。
