We’re providing in-person assistance on Sunday 7/26 in Chinatown for tenants who need help to apply for the NYS COVID Rent Relief Program.
If you’d like to help on Sunday, join us Saturday afternoon (7/25), 3-4pm for a Zoom training on how to assist tenants complete the NYS COVID Rent Relief program application. We’ll give you a run-down of all the paperwork and how to help tenants on Sunday during our in-person clinic in Chinatown. (If you can’t make this Sat training time, you may still volunteer if you can watch a recording of the training before your volunteer shift on Sunday.)
Please fill out this form to sign up as a volunteer and we’ll be in touch soon to follow up with the Zoom link!
Many thanks to Samantha Sumilang, Esq. of the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY), Pro Bono and Community Service Committee, who will conduct the training for us.
Notes:
You do not need to be fluent in Chinese to volunteer— some tenants may be able to speak English, and we’ll also have administrative tasks and data entry to do!
Non-lawyers are welcome! You do not need to be a lawyer to volunteer— after the training, most people who are good with computers and basic interview skills should be able to help.
The assistance workshop on Sunday (7/26) will be held indoors, in large rooms with air flow and space to allow for volunteers and tenants to keep a distance. Masks are required to be worn at all times.
